TARA exhibition hosted in Kumi District, Uganda

The TARA exhibition Window on Africa’s Past which was at the Uganda Museum from February to April 2010, was opened on 13 May 2010 at Kumi District, the home of Nyero Rock Art site. The exhibition was officially opened by the Minister for Industry, Rev. Fr.Hon. Simon Lokudo. Speaking at the opening, the Minister requested that the Commissioner of Antiquities a budget for the fencing of the rock art site which is severely threaten by human encroachment.

Hundreds of visitors and community members had a chance to visit the site and witness the destruction and challenges facing the heritage. The exhibition will be hosted at Kumi for two weeks after which it will move to Kenya. Rose Mwanaja Nkaale, Ag. Commissioner, Museums and Monuments of Uganda and Jackline Nyiracyiza, Conservator of History/Archaeology Monuments were present at the event. TARA was represented by Gloria K. Borona, Manager Community Projects and Outreach who highlighted TARA’s commitment to raise awareness of the rich African Rock Art heritage and community involvement in conservation.
